Dr Gemma Birkett appointed as Chair of the CJA Board of Trustees

The CJA is delighted to welcome Dr Gemma Birkett as our new Chair of the Board of Trustees. Gemma is a Reader in Criminal Justice at City, University of London where she is Co-Director of the interdisciplinary Centre for Justice Reform. Gemma sits on the Executive Board of the British Society of Criminology and chairs it’s Women, Crime and Criminal Justice Network. She is a trustee at Elizabeth Fry Approved Premises in Reading, and a Mentor with the Longford Trust.

Speaking about the appointment, CJA Director Annette So, said:

I am excited to be working with Gemma to deliver CJA’s ambitious strategy to drive systemic change in our justice system. Gemma’s expertise across policy, public affairs and academia will be an invaluable addition to the CJA. I look forward to Gemma’s leadership.
